Siba's tip...

For an adult version, I add 45 ml of siracha sauce to the sauce to add a touch of spice. I also like adding 30 g fresh chopped coriander as it complements these favours wonderfully.

Easy Beef Kebabs

Prep time

Cook time

Serves

6+

Ingredients

  • 300 g boerewors
  • 200 g lean beef mince
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 10 g ginger, finely grated
  • ¼ red onion, finely chopped
  • 30 ml low-sodium soya sauce (Kikkoman)
  • 20 g fresh coriander, roughly chopped

Sauce to toss in

  • 60 ml tomato sauce
  • 10 ml honey

Serve with

  • A handful of celery sticks, baby cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, cheddar cheese blocks, peach slices (with a squeeze of lemon) as well as mango and butternut yoghurt, popcorns and some water.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C. Gently pull the boerewors out of its casing and place in a bowl. Discard the casing.
  2. Add the mince, garlic, ginger, onion, soy sauce and coriander. Mix well by hand. Roll into meatballs slightly smaller than the size of a golf ball.
  3. Place on a roasting tray and roast for 12 minutes, or until cooked through and golden.
  4. To make the sauce, heat the tomato sauce and honey in a large frying pan, along with some of the cooked meat juices for the roasting tray. Stir until the honey has dissolved.
  5. Add the meat balls into the sauce and toss them gently and then set aside to cool.
  6. Thread about 3 meatballs onto each skewer until all done and pack into a lunch box. Make sure the meatballs have cooled down before placing in a sealed container or lunch box.
  7. In another compartment place a handful of celery sticks, mini baby cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, cheddar cheese blocks and white flesh peach slices with a squeeze of lemon drizzled over its flesh to prevent it from discolouring. Along with a mango and butternut yoghurt, popcorns and some water. Place into a cooler pack and its ready to go!
